Intellectual property

 

Intellectual property Rights  in Rwanda is governed by the law of the protection of intellectual property No 31/2009 of 26/10/2009.

This law protects the authors of the following categories: innovators, creators of industrial designs, creators of layout designs used in trade, authors of literary, artistic and scientific works and any other works of an original intellectual creation.

This law also protects owners of distinctive signs used in trade and broadcasting organizations

The main objective of the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights is to promote technological innovation and the transfer and dissemination of technology to benefit producers and users of technological knowledge in a manner conducive to the social and economic welfare of the population and to a balance of rights and obligations.

 
Register industrial property

According to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) a patent is "is a document which describes an invention which can be manufactured, used, and sold with the authorization of the owner of the patent. An invention is a solution to a specific technical problem."A trade mark is a distinctive sign or indicator used by an individual, business organization or any other legal entity to identify that the products or services to consumers with which the trade mark appears originate from a unique source, and to distinguish its products and services from those of other entities.

 

 

A copyright is a set of exclusive rights granted to the author or creator of an original work, including the right to copy, distribute and adapt the work. These rights can be licensed, transferred or assigned.
